The Day of Reckoning
From JUOD
The Day of Reckoning is a short story found in Harley P. Mathewson's series of poetic novellas, The Verities of Joining. It is comprised of two parts, which are divided evenly between volumes XVII and XIX. The volumes are separated by Volume XVIII, "What a Bunch of Whores," but the reason for this split is unknown.
Modern Adaptations
As the most pervasive of all volumes in The Verities of Joining, "The Day of Reckoning" naturally found its way into various facets of pop culture. In 1995, Japanese company Square released Chrono Trigger, a video game based almost entirely on "The Day of Reckoning." This game was massively popular and is widely regarded to be the greatest game of all time. Unfortunately, Square did little to acknowledge Mathewson or the JUOD Movement, so few fans were made aware of the association. Hundreds of Squaresoft employees died as a result of this grievous act against the JUOD Movement, including most members of Chrono Trigger's development staff. It is for this reason that Square was unable to produce a sequel to Chrono Trigger that didn't suck.
